This Sunday (June 5^th) is World Environment Day. It is an annual event that was established by the United National General Assembly in 1972 as a means to promote awareness of global environmental issues. More importantly, it’s a day where the global community can come together and work towards a more sustainable future.

World Environment Day is hosted in a different city with a new theme each year. In 2011, New Delhi, India will host the celebratory day with the theme of Forests – Nature At Your Service. This year’s theme emphasizes the importance that forests plays in our lives and how it is often taken for granted. Forests cover more than 1/3 of the Earth’s land mass and roughly 1.6 billion people worldwide depend on forests for their livelihood. Forests also play a key role in out battle against climate change—and if our forests begin to disappear—our climate will be altered severely.

So, this World Environment Day, we want you to know that every effort counts!
