Karat® at the Winter Fancy Food Show and North America Pizza & Ice Cream Show
Lollicup® USA, Inc. displayed their Karat® products from Jan 15 – Jan 17 at Moscone Center in San Francisco for the 37th Winter Fancy Food Show. Along with foodservice peers from over 1,300 exhibiting companies, we walked the show networking and learning, as well as tasted and touched the latest products and food. The Karat® booth was fully-equipped with our line of insulated paper hot cups, PET cups, custom printed beverage napkins, and more. The three-day event, operated by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT), broke records in the show’s 37-year history: attendance was the highest ever with 17,000 attendees and the sold-out exhibit space was the largest to date in San Francisco. Karat® was excited to have such a great start to the year.
This past weekend Karat® made its first appearance at the 8th North America Pizza & Ice Cream Show (NAPICS) in Columbus, Ohio. From Jan 29 – Jan 30, the Karat® booth at the Greater Columbus Convention Center provided great exposure and the opportunity to meet with food artisans and entrepreneurs representing over 175 exhibiting companies. Custom printed paper food container and utensils took the spotlight at the Karat® booth, receiving impressive feedback on their versatility and functionality. Designed for owners and operators of pizzerias and frozen dessert shops in North America, NAPICS provided the Karat® team with access to new products, education, and networking. We look forward to returning again next year.

Karat at the Hawaii Lodging, Hospitality & Foodservice Expo
Karat continues in its return to Hawaii for this year’s Hawaii Lodging, Hospitality and Foodservice Expo for 17th annual tradeshow. This year’s tradeshow, held at Neil S. Blaisdell Center, included tons of foodservice professionals such as fast food franchisees, caterers, chefs, convenience store owners, café and restaurant owners, hotels and spas, health clubs and other industry professionals. The two day event (July 13-14) makes up the largest segment of the lodging, hospitality, and foodservice industry in Hawaii and we here at Lollicup USA, Inc. were proud to be part of it!
The tradeshow gave us the opportunity to have immediate and direct access to Hawaii’s largest and most important market: hospitality and tourism. Each year, Hawaii’s hospitality market grosses over $10 billion/year—that’s a lot! With being an exhibitor at this tradeshow, we had direct access to over 5,000 buyers, retailers, and distributors from all over the Aloha State.
We’ve enjoyed each trip to Hawaii and expect to return next year to support the tradeshow. See you next year!
Karat at the Summer Fancy Food Show!
Earlier this week 24,000 foodservice professionals and foodies flocked to the Walter E Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. for the 57th Annual Summer Fancy Food Show. The Summer Fancy Food Show is the largest marketplace for specialty foods, beverages, and foodservice professionals. Karat® was excited to be a part of this year’s show as it marked its first year in Washington D.C.
This year’s show introduced exhibitors, foodservice professionals, and D.C. locals to over 180,000 products including confections, cheese, coffee, oils, snacks, desserts, and other intriguing foodservice products. With more than 320,000+ square feet of exhibitor space, 2,400 exhibitors, and over 80 countries represented on the floor—there was definitely something for everyone.
We here at Karat® were on the exhibitor floor showcasing our collection of both generic and custom printed food containers (Cherry on Top), PET cups (Wetzel’s Pretzels), paper hot cups (La Brea Bakery), and paper cold cups (Juice it Up).
Along with all the activity going on the exhibitor floor, we hope you got the chance to attend one of the many food education programs, spot a celebrity chef, or watch a food demonstration.
Thanks Washington D.C. and everyone at the Summer Fancy Food Show for a wonderful show.
Karat at the Southwest Foodservice Expo
This past June, the annual Southwest Foodservice Expo turned 74 and Karat® was on hand to join in on the monumental celebration. From June 26 – 28th, the Southwest Foodservice Expo gathered 18,000 foodservice professionals at the Dallas Convention Center for the three-day event. The Southwest Foodservice Expo, which is produced annually by the Texas Restaurant Association, focuses on trends and developments in the industry. This year’s Expo included over 760 exhibitors showcasing equipment, food products, and disposables.
At the Karat® booth, there was plenty going on as well. We showcased our samples of our impressive Custom Printed paper food containers (Tutti Frutti), napkins (The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf), PET cups (Wetzel’s Pretzels) , paper cold cups (Juice it Up), and paper hot cups. Attendees were also treated to sample packs of our Tea Zone® Mini-Flavored Mochi. We hope you got your hands on some of the samples at the show. We hope to see you all (ya’ll) at next year’s Southwest Foodservice Expo in Dallas for the big 7-5!
Ways to Green Your Business
Sometimes we may think that it’s not easy being green. A growing office might not have all the resources to change out their standard light bulbs to energy efficient light bulbs. Or a restaurant can’t upgrade to all Energy Star appliances. Nonetheless, we’ve compiled a few tips with ways in which you can green your business.
Office: Recycle everything! In an office setting, recycling isn’t only limited to paper—but you can recycle beverage containers, electronic equipment, batteries, plastic, and aluminum.
Café/Coffeehouse: Save the coffee grinds and use them as a natural fertilizer for indoor and outdoor plants. Not only are you saving the coffee grinds from the trash, but you’ll also create an even cooler atmosphere with the plants in your café/coffeehouse.
Ice Cream/Yogurt Shop: Invest in greening your business with the Karat® Earth line of eco-friendly Paper Food Containers and Compostable Teaspoons. Satisfy your customers’ taste buds for something cool and sweet and do it in green style!
Restaurants: Use recycled paper for Menus. Changing your menus from regular paper to recycled paper is an obvious way to show your customers your commitment to going green—a menu is something that every customer looks at when they sit down at a restaurant.
Fast-Service Food: Change out your regular plastic cups and paper hot cups to the Karat® Earth line of PLA cold cups and Karat® Earth Paper Hot Cups. Both of these products are eco-friendly, so customers can take their drinks to-go eco-consciously.
Karat® Counts Down to World Environment Day
This Sunday (June 5th) is World Environment Day. It is an annual event that was established by the United National General Assembly in 1972 as a means to promote awareness of global environmental issues. More importantly, it’s a day where the global community can come together and work towards a more sustainable future.
World Environment Day is hosted in a different city with a new theme each year. In 2011, New Delhi, India will host the celebratory day with the theme of Forests – Nature At Your Service. This year’s theme emphasizes the importance that forests plays in our lives and how it is often taken for granted. Forests cover more than 1/3 of the Earth’s land mass and roughly 1.6 billion people worldwide depend on forests for their livelihood. Forests also play a key role in out battle against climate change—and if our forests begin to disappear—our climate will be altered severely.
So, this World Environment Day, we want you to know that every effort counts! Karat® is counting down to World Environment Day with exceptional pricing on our partner sites CupDepot.com and LollicupStore.com through out the month of June. Remember, on Sunday, join in on many of the planned events found on the World Environment Day website such as: beach clean-ups, concerts, film festival, exhibits, and other community events. Or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, plan your own event. Together, we can save the environment.
